Finley loves exactly three things in life: women, booze, and sword fighting.
Finley (but only call him that if you want a sword in your belly) or "Fin" at his insistence, has issues with authority... scratch that, he has issues with people. In his mind, it is only stupid people who do stupid things, but somehow he always finds himself surrounded by morons.
He exhibits exceptional skill with the sword and caught the attention of a local sword master who took him in at a young age. After quite a few beat downs, Fin learned to temper his attitude keep his mouth shut around people that could beat him. He also developed a rather strong conviction to always be the most deadly person in the room.
Over the next ten years he trained under the sword master, learning the forms and stances necessary to utilize his skill. Once it was clear he could learn nothing more, he challenged the sword master to a duel…for his sword, claiming it was his right as a student that had surpassed his master. His master vehemently claimed this was not a thing, but Fin wouldn't listen. He attacked the master, beat him, and took his sword. The sword master vowed never to teach another student.
Fin tried a variety of places to apply his skill, mostly finding a temporary place in various mercenary groups. However, his attitude inevitably would get him kicked out on one mercenary group only for his skill to get him invited into the next. He was never out of good work and yet he was never really satisfied. Mercenary work was boring and repetitive. Sure, there were the occasional battles but more often than not Fin found himself slaughtering greenhorns instead of rising to any actual challenge.
Eventually, he came across an expedition heading into the Elderin forest. He'd never considered pitting himself against some of the fiercest monsters of the world, but once the idea took hold he simply could not say no. Not only would it test his skill, but expeditions were notorious for making their members rich…if they made it back. Most don't, but that possibility never entered his mind. His skill easily earned him a place as a guard for an expedition, where he meets…
